Control systems for transportation companies
The present solution of complex surveillance systems for transportation companies can be seen in the following picture (in this case it is a solution using APN Herman):
The above system consists of:
- vehicle information and checking system accessible via APN (a virtual data network set up by a GSM mobile operator),
- control information system owned by a transportation company or run as a service by our company (Herman server) and including central system and center management (dispatching SW SPRINTER and SW BackOffice),
- solution for places where prepaid cards are sold,
- information system IDS – the offered system can send data to superordinate dispatching centers,
- system clients with access rights appropriate for given job roles,
- data transfers from checking systems to the accounting centre of the transportation system.
Dispatching SW SPRINTER
The SPRINTER dispatching SW has been in development since 2001 and a substantial amount of resources has been invested in its development. The current version includes both dispatching vehicle control for municipal public transportation companies including vehicle data management – the RADON service (its automatic uploading and downloading) and stop information LED or LCD panel control in cities and regions. We have also released a version for IDS dispatching including a complex way of communication with vehicles using standards defined by our company. The dispatching systems make possible communication with vehicles via radio networks (usually municipal transportation companies) or via GSM operators (systems for regional public transportation). Data updates in depots are usually performed using WIFI systems or via fast data channels (obsolete). It goes without saying that all the kinds of dispatching systems contain map materials.
Versions of the dispatching system SPRINTER:
- Dispatching system for municipal public transportation companies controlled via private radio networks.
- Regional dispatching system for integrated transportation companies controlled via GSM/GPRS/UMTS networks.
- Dispatching system for information panels controlled via GSM/GPRS/UMTS networks or private radio networks.
Basic functions of dispatching systems:
-
Voice messages to vehicles and panels in GSM/GPRS/UMST networks or DP[2] private radio networks including various types of ascribing station address – from selective to general.
- Periodic calls to public transportation vehicles to determine their positions and also calls to passenger information panels to send up to date information about vehicle departures from stops.
- Manual sending of state reports between the dispatching and vehicles and from a dispatcher to stop panels for passengers.
- Automatic sending of short messages about the line and the next stop to vehicles and information panels.
- Automatic vehicle position assessment taking into account the schedule and the stop where the panel is situated.
- Additional information – the possibility of indicating the state of the power supply system for trams and trolleybuses, technological vehicle surveillance, supervision of the technical state of panels, etc.
Basic properties of the SPRINTER dispatching system
- The basic structure of the dispatching system is client – server.
- The SPRINTER client provides an overview of what is going on in transportation and in the system.
- It offers simple and intuitive communication with vehicles including searching for information, playing history and filtering processes, statistics.
- Users have at their disposal a well arranged system of more windows that ensures comfortable work with the system.
- Switching from the main window to support windows is very easy.
The basic ways of communication in the system are
- ordering of information about the most recent events in the system including priority messages
- communication via state messages and position surveillance messages
- work with dynamic groups including creating such groups using a mouse cursor over a map
- multilevel map system – many levels
- animations of the history of the ride of a vehicle – the so called „replay“ mode offering a number of animation speeds
- window for controlling voice communication
- warning system for non-standard states
Vehicle surveillance SW
The surveillance SW for uploading or reading data to/from vehicles is designed for remote data updates/reading mainly for regional public transportation vehicles. It is able to create an independent information channel for a vehicle. The goal is to provide:
- data communication from checking devices (remote reading of deductions and uploading e.g. schedules, etc.). The surveillance unit uses a specific communication channel to communicate with the checking device,
- the communication channel can also be used to create public WIFI in vehicles,
- remote updates for vehicle LCD panels for passengers – it is possible to send transportation information, news, advertisements,
- there can also be an additional effect in the form of vehicle position surveillance or other communication functions.
The current remote surveillance system is based on MSP x.x units. More on ……
Data update system for passenger LCD panels
We are preparing (in action from December 2014) a system that will provide independent surveillance of LCD in public transportation vehicles. Transportation information regarding the ride of a vehicle will switch with news and advertisements while the basic information about the direction of the drive will be always preserved (this replaces inner LED panels). A remote server will use GSM/UMTS networks to keep the data up to date. We are preparing the texts.
