EPIS 5 FCC is an on-board computer with passenger check-in designed primarily for regional public transportation.
EPIS 5FC unit meets: | |
Operation temperature requirements (-20°C up to +70°C) – this means that in lower temperatures the vehicle has to be kept in RESET so that the inside of the unit can be heated by “waste” warmth (if this happens it only takes a few tenths of seconds). From -40°C to +80°C for extra charge.
Performance requirements – thanks to the processor built using the ARM architecture. If requested we can provide up to 4 core processors with high memory.
|
|
Versatility of use with systems with payment to the driver – easily configurable large LCD touchscreen control terminal with a capacity touchscreen. |
Parameters of the on-board computer with checking – EPIS 5 FC
We used our long-term experience and the latest technologies in this field to design this on-board computer. That allowed us to achieve a low price and a high technological standard:
- On-board computer with checking based on ARM processors with the possibility of 1 – 4 core processors Cortes-A9. Tjhe frequency is at least 1 GHz, up to 4 GB DDR3 RAM, microSD disc or 8/32 SSD disc. Two or four graphic interfaces up to 1920 x 1080 points.
- High illumination 10,4″ LCD driver terminal with capacity touchscreen (it can be controled even with gloves). Its resolution is 800 x 600 points.
- 3“ thermo printer with long lifespan of its cutter and print head (200 mil. prints).
- Contactless chip card reader MIFARE Classic 1K, 4K and MIFARE DESFire EV1 2K, 4K, 8K. Contins a controller for 4 SAM (supports MIFARE SAM AV1 and AV2) each with adjustable independent 1,8 V, 3V a 5V power supply.
- Bank card reader
- Independent memory for payment transaction and contactless chip card operation backup (integrated black box) already part of the basic model. Each tranaction at the cash register is saved in the isolated backup memory that makes it possible for the data to be read even when the unit is broken.
- Quadruple independent digital annunciator (inside the vehicle, outside the vehicle, for hte driver and passengers) based on the MPEG 3 standard with announcement time based on the capacity of an SD card or an SSD disc (many hours).
- Acoustic switchboard with inputs for a microphone, a GSM/GPRS/UMTS module, a PC sound card and a tripple digital annunciator. The acoustic swithcboard is equipped with amplifiers with 2x20W (top 50W) and 2×10 permanent performance. A speaker for the driver and passenger is included in the basic unit.
- Integrated GPS receiver SirfStar IV (including an antena) for locating the position of the vehicle including predicting future locations of the vehicle. This receiver is also used as a time normal of the EPIS system. Localization accuracy up to 2,5 m.
- GSM/GPRS/UMTS module for communication with the dispatching and automatic software updates. Modems with the UMTS speed (3G networks) are supplied at a request.
- Integrated Wifi module at 2,4 GHz that can be used as WiFi in depots – data updates or as a WiFi for passengers (passengers WiFi is being prepared).
- Backedup power supply – in case of a failure of the main power supply +24V (e.g. when the vehicle is being started) a backup accumulator capable of keeping the system up without a reset of the OS for at least 20 minutes. The outage time after which the operation system is shut down automatically can be set by the user.
- Interface for controlling outer and inner information LED panels (tableaus) using 100Mbit / s ethernet, RS 485 or the classic 1200 bit/s IBIS interface. This interface is also able to load BUSe tableaus as the speed of 9600 bit/s or 19200 bit/s.
- Automatic software updates – at set times or in set intervals the unit wakes up (with minimum power consuption) and uses WiFi or GPRS/UMTS to ask the dispatching about new SW update and loads them if there are any.
- Passenger side display 4,3″ high illumination display with the possibility of displaying static texts with fonts and text position set by the user. It can display logos.

Recommended vehicle installation
The following picture shows an installation of the EPIS 5 FCC on-board computer with checking in a regional public transportation vehicle. This installation is based on a unified power supply system distribution (the PoE – power over Ethernet – or TPOE – targeted PoE system) and on an Ethernet busbar. The advantage of this solution is that the on-board computer directly switches on individual components as needed, i.e. only the device that is needed is running at any given moment. Components supplied by our company are adjusted to this system.
One of the advantages of an Ethernet busbar is that it allows fast data transfers therefore it is no longer necessary to rely on the slow IBIS busbar. Moreover, the IBIS busbar does not support Czech language and other displaying possibilities (various symbols, logos, etc.). The price of this solution is comparable with the IBIS busbar while its possibilities are completely different.

Pic. no. 7.: Installation of the EPIS 5 FCC on-board computer with check-in including Ethernet distribution.
When the Ethernet distribution is used it is necessary to use an Ethernet interface router with a vehicle IP address – connection of the check-in system, CITY SCREEN (LCD displays for passengers), tachograph, etc.. The EPIS control unit behaves like a firewall preventing unwanted vehicle access. Inner communication has an independent Ethernet network.
