Transportella manages communications for Olomouc’s public transport system

As part of an extensive modernisation of its radio infrastructure, the Olomouc Transport Company (DPMO) has switched to the TETRA communications network, which ensures greater reliability, safety and operational quality. Herman has played a key role in this modernisation, supplying the new Transportella dispatch system and the KAR-01 vehicle unit.

Thanks to these technologies, a unified, accurate and instantly accessible source of information for managing public transport in Olomouc has been created.

Modern dispatching system

Transportella is dispatch software developed for managing urban transport. At DPMO, it serves as a central system that integrates information from vehicles, the TETRA radio network and timetables. This provides dispatchers with a single, clear-at-a-glance tool that speeds up decision-making and enhances operational safety. Key benefits of the Transportella system:

Precise real-time vehicle location

Transportella displays the immediate location of every public transport vehicle. This gives DPMO a detailed overview of operations, including direction of travel, speed and current deviations from the timetable.

Integrated TETRA voice and data communication

The system supports individual calls, group calls and emergency calls with automatic monitoring. Transportella thus unifies all communication between the control centre and the vehicles.

Route management and traffic map

Dispatchers can track vehicles both on a map and via a line view, which shows the real-time positioning of vehicles along the route. Coloured markers clearly indicate delays or overtaking.

History and Replay mode

An important advantage is the ability to replay a vehicle’s journey, including all events. This helps with resolving incidents, training or reviewing operations.

Statistics and Automatic Reports

The system can generate statistics on timetable adherence, delay analysis, stop passages or operational events. Exports are available in both XLSX and CSV formats.

KAR‑01 – data transmission unit

Herman has also supplied the Transportella system with its own KAR‑01 vehicle unit, which connects the on-board computer, GPS and TETRA radio. Key features of the KAR‑01:

• precise GPS position updated up to once per second,
• transmission of important operational data (stops, doors, call requests, emergency signals),
• sending SDS messages to the TETRA network,
• receipt of commands from the control centre, including remote control of heating or air conditioning,
• robust design tailored for public transport operations.

Thanks to the KAR-01 unit, Transportella has a real-time connection with every vehicle, which significantly improves data accuracy and communication reliability.
