OBU for in-vehicle installation – IP 54

UCU 6.0N is a new generation of the universal on-board communication unit (OBU) for public transport, road operator and emergency vehicles. It provides secure communication between the vehicle and its surroundings, such as prioritizing public transport and emergency vehicles at intersections. Thanks to IP54 protection and robust M12 connectors, it withstands demanding vehicle conditions. It supports V2X (ITS-G5) and C-V2X, up to two 4G/5G modems and remote management via Anbos.

Standardized V2X interface
C2X/V2X communication is a European standard that lets vehicles communicate with each other and with the traffic infrastructure. The UCU 6.0N meets the strict C-ROADS standards for V2X technology, including the related standards for security and certified signatures. This makes traffic safer and more efficient. The unit supports both V2X (ITS-G5, Wi-Fi based) and C-V2X (cellular based).

Priority for vehicles
The OBU manages prioritized passage of public transport vehicles through intersections. It autonomously sends priority requests and processes responses from RSUs, based on its own configuration and on communication with the on-board computer. It supports many on-board computer protocols, such as IBIS-IP and ITxPT. Emergency vehicles request priority based on the route to their destination, or optionally based on internal navigation.

Information for drivers
The UCU 6.0N can be connected to several types of driver displays: a tablet with our Android/iOS application, or a dedicated display powered directly from the OBU. Both options inform the driver about dangerous situations nearby or about the recommended speed for approaching an intersection. They also allow basic interaction with the unit.

Higher traffic safety
Besides displaying warnings to the driver, the OBU can generate warning messages automatically. On an emergency vehicle, it warns others that the vehicle is approaching. On a roadwork vehicle, it alerts drivers to roadworks in progress. On a public transport vehicle, it warns drivers when the vehicle is at a dangerous stop. Internal digital maps are used to generate these warnings.

Remote administration and monitoring
The unit has up to two powerful 4G or 5G modems for fast, low-latency connectivity to central systems. It can be monitored and configured remotely through our C-ITS back-office server Anbos. A built-in web application provides unit settings, management and an instant status overview. The unit also supports secure communication within PKI, so its communication with other units can be trusted.

Proven technology evolved
The previous generation, UCU 5.0, has been in real operation for several years, notably in internationally recognized projects in Brno and Hradec Králové. The UCU 6.0N builds on that experience. It has a new processor with much higher computing power and more RAM. It also has very low power consumption in sleep mode and significantly improved tamper detection. The unit uses robust industrial M12 connectors (D-coded and X-coded for Ethernet, A-coded for inputs and outputs), which, together with the IP54 rating, ensure reliable connections even in demanding vehicle conditions with vibrations, dust and moisture.
